Spirent DLS 414E

The Spirent DLS 414E is an advanced ADSL2++ Wireline Simulator Chassis designed to accurately replicate the twisted pair copper telephony cables with DC and AC characteristics. This is achieved through the utilization of passive circuitry, which ensures faithful simulation of attenuation, complex impedance, and velocity of the wireline. The chassis is equipped with two ports that allow external noise injection using a compatible Reach Noise Generation System for ADSL2++. With its comprehensive wireline simulation capabilities and preloaded noise files, the DLS 414E, in conjunction with the noise generation system, provides extensive support for ADSL2++ testing.

The DLS 414E can be remotely configured and controlled via IEEE 488 or RS-232 interfaces, offering seamless integration into larger test systems. The accompanying software is compatible with WindowsTM 98/NT/2000, enabling convenient operation on compatible computers. Alternatively, the chassis can be controlled using scripts employing SCPI commands. While the upper limit of ADSL2+ is currently set at 2.2 MHz, the DLS 414E extends its coverage up to 4.5 MHz. This expanded frequency band addresses the growing interest among vendors and service providers in the quadruple bandwidth technique, potentially pushing the usable ADSL band to a maximum of 4.4 MHz.

The DLS 414E ensures accurate replication of the European PE 0.4/0.5 mm straight loop, encompassing the entire North American ADSL2++ frequency spectrum. Both downstream and upstream signals are faithfully reproduced, maintaining identical attenuation, group delay, and impedance characteristics. The DLS 414E is equipped with two LEDs, indicating power and remote status. The POWER LED illuminates green upon powering on and blinks red in the event of a self-test failure or yellow if an internal error is detected. The REMOTE LED remains off initially but turns green upon receiving the first valid remote message, or red if an error is identified.

The DLS 414E features a 2-fuse setup, with the power input located at the rear of the chassis. It accommodates AC line voltages ranging from 90 to 240 VRMS (+/-10%) and operates within a frequency range of 50 to 60 Hz. The chassis can function with any voltage and frequency within this specified range, eliminating the need for switch adjustments. Notably, the DLS 414E powers up in an "idle" state by default and retains the previously selected loop settings even when powered off, enabling usage without active power supply. The chassis offers a maximum reach of 7000 m, which can be extended further using the reach extension port featuring two RJ-45 connectors positioned at the rear. However, it's important to note that the standard length results in high insertion loss for frequencies exceeding 1.1 MHz.
